The Black Egg is a working prototype. The thinking is in place; the tool is being refined. Here's what's true today, written by a lawyer in plain English so you can decide for yourself.

What happens to your text

When you paste a message, it travels from this page to an AI provider for analysis. PowerVox does not store your text. We don't keep it after this session ends. We don't read it. We don't train models on it. Nothing is associated with you as a person — there's no account, no login, no identifier.

What the AI provider does

Our AI provider sees your prompt while it runs the analysis. We're working towards a Zero Data Retention arrangement that removes this risk entirely; until that's in place, the provider may briefly hold your prompt (typically up to 30 days under their standard policy) before discarding it. Treat what you paste with that in mind.

Please don't paste

• Anything genuinely confidential — live commercial deals, legal matters under privilege, medical or financial details about you or anyone else.
• Other people's personal information without their permission. Use placeholders — "my line manager", "the client", "a colleague" rather than real names. If your message mentions someone identifiable, write it as if they might read what you've pasted.
• Anything you wouldn't be comfortable being briefly seen by a stranger working at the AI provider.

This isn't advice

The Black Egg shows you the gap between what you meant and what your message says. It doesn't replace legal counsel, HR advice, mediation, or professional mental-health support. If a situation is high-stakes or sensitive, get proper advice as well.

How we handle your text

The Black Egg only works if you trust it with real messages — the email you nearly sent, the conversation you're preparing for, the words you couldn't quite find. Real messages tend to contain real names, real situations, real consequences. So you deserve a clear answer to a clear question: what happens to my text once I paste it?

Here is that answer.

This is a prototype

The Black Egg prototype runs at the-black-egg.vercel.app while we finish the production version. The thinking, the methodology and the analysis engine are in place. The data-handling promises below are what we commit to today. When the production version launches, you'll see a full privacy notice that supersedes this page.

Where your text goes

When you click analyse, your text leaves your browser. It travels to:

• The Black Egg's server. A small piece of infrastructure hosted by Vercel (USA). Your text passes through here on its way to the analysis engine. It is not written to a database. It is not logged. It is not kept.
• The AI provider. The Black Egg uses a large language model from a major AI provider to perform part of the analysis. The provider sees your text as a prompt. The analysis comes back. The connection closes.
• Your browser. The result is returned to your screen.

PowerVox does not retain your text. There is no account, no profile, no message history attached to you as a person. Reload the page and your last analysis is gone.

What the AI provider does with your text

This is the bit most prototype tools don't admit. The AI provider may briefly retain prompts for around 30 days under their standard policy, for abuse-monitoring purposes. They don't use it to train models. They don't sell it. But it is, for that window, in their hands.

We've requested a Zero Data Retention arrangement that removes this window entirely. The moment that's in place, this page will be updated. Until then, treat what you paste as if it might be very briefly seen by a stranger doing their job at the AI provider.

If that's not an acceptable risk for the particular message you have in mind — don't paste it. Use a paraphrased version, or wait for the production version.

Please don't paste the following

• Information you've been told to keep confidential. Live commercial negotiations, board papers under embargo, anything covered by legal privilege, regulated client data.
• Personal information about other people. Real names of colleagues, clients, family members or anyone else who hasn't consented to having their words analysed. Replace with placeholders: "my line manager", "the client", "a colleague on the project". The analysis works just as well — and the people in your message are protected.
• Special-category personal data. This is the formal term for data about health, religious belief, political views, sexual orientation, ethnicity, biometric or genetic data, criminal allegations, or trade union activity. If your message touches any of these, paraphrase or remove the specifics.
• Anything you'd feel exposed by. Trust your gut. If you'd hesitate to send the message to a colleague, you probably shouldn't paste it into a prototype.

What the Black Egg is for. And what it isn't

It is a reflective tool. It shows you the gap between what you intended to say and what your message actually says. It surfaces hedging, softening, over-explaining, and the truth you might be holding back.

It is not legal advice. It is not HR guidance. It is not therapy. It is not a substitute for proper professional support when a situation is serious. If you're navigating something that has real legal, employment, medical or safeguarding consequences, please get advice from a person qualified to give it.

Cross-border data

Vercel and the AI provider both operate from the United States. By using the prototype, you accept that your text may be processed outside the UK and EU. We're working on the appropriate transfer mechanisms (UK IDTA, EU SCCs, Transfer Risk Assessments) ahead of the production launch.

You're 18 or over

The Black Egg is built for adults working in professional contexts. If you are under 18, please don't use the prototype.

Questions, concerns, or rights requests

We're not yet at the point where there's a contact form or a data subject access workflow specifically for the Black Egg. While we're in prototype, contact PowerVox directly at team@powervox.co.uk and we'll handle it personally. Tell us what you're worried about and we'll respond within five working days.

What changes when we launch

The production Black Egg will have a full privacy notice; a Zero Data Retention arrangement with the AI provider, or a clearly named alternative; an optional opt-in storage feature (paid tier) for personal message history; a completed Data Protection Impact Assessment; cross-border transfer mechanisms in place; and a formal route for data subject rights.
